Life With My 2.5-Year-Old: The Sweet, the Wild, and Everything in Between

There’s something sacred about this season of motherhood—somewhere between snack crumbs and bedtime snuggles, I catch myself staring at a little boy who keeps surprising me. At 2.5 years old, my son is all energy, wonder, and love. Somehow, in the middle of long days and scattered toys, he’s teaching me how to slow down and pay attention.

The Joy of Discovery
Lately, he’s all about dinosaurs, Sonic, and the ABCs. He sings them loud and proud, in perfect order, grinning the whole way through. The truth is, without his tablet, I don’t think his vocabulary would be where it is. His favorite videos, songs, and learning games have given him a voice that’s growing stronger every day. He navigates the screen like a pro—finding his shows, adjusting the volume, and picking out what he wants next without missing a beat.
Curious Questions
Tonight he asked about the sun.
“Where did it go?”
We told him the sun had gone to bed.
He thought for a second and then said, “Sissy?”
And then there was the grape heist.
The Grape Heist
I was focused on researching something when he helped himself to the entire bag of grapes from the fridge. He’d pulled open the fridge, opened the fruit drawer, and grabbed what he wanted like he owned the place. No mess. No hesitation. Just pure toddler confidence, with the drawer and doors left wide open behind him.
He wanted six grapes, so I handed them over. Then we guided him, step by step, to put the rest back in the drawer. I was genuinely surprised by how well he followed instructions.
I couldn’t stop laughing.
He just smiled.
Moments of Joy
Moments like that stop me in my tracks. His thoughts are always moving, always reaching. I never know where he’ll go next.
He’s figured out how to open every cabinet in the house. No lock is safe. Every drawer is fair game. His trucks race across the floor at top speed, and his magnetic tiles turn into towers, racetracks, garages, or walls—whatever his imagination wants that day. He builds, smashes, rebuilds, and starts again. I love that about him.
Embracing the Chaos
Some days are long. Some days feel loud and messy. But even in the chaos, my heart is full. I get to witness his growth up close. I get to hear his questions, feel his little hand on mine, and see the world through his eyes.
Motherhood doesn’t come with a manual, but it does come with moments—small, simple, sacred ones. I want to remember how he holds his cup, how he curls up with his blanket and tablet at the end of the day, and how seriously he studies his sandwich at the table. I want to remember the sound of his voice, clear and certain, singing his ABCs like the whole world is listening.
Celebrating Son’s Day
Today is Son’s Day, and I feel it deep.
He’s amazing. I’m blessed.
I love him to the moon and back—then farther still.
This is our life right now. Dinosaurs. Snacks. Sonic. Trucks. ABCs. And a love that keeps growing every single day.
From a mama in the thick of it, grateful for every wild and wonderful minute.
